About the Artist

Welcome to Char-Latte Creations (pronounced Latte like
the coffee)
How did I get started? That is the question I usually get. I have
been an vintage costume jewelry (old pins and bead necklaces)
collector for about ten years. As a collector I hated to throw away
a pin or glass bead necklace because it was broken. I also had
acquired a lot of vintage watches over the years. One day I found
a very old watch and took it apart. The watch cog (gear box) had
been machined out and was engraved and detailed. It was a
gorgeous piece of art. I decided to make me a necklace from it.
It was about this time that my only and youngest sister was
diagnosed with breast cancer. She was 36. When we lost her in
August, I was consumed by grief. Designing jewelry was a great
way to keep my mind busy. It is very therapeutic. Her death
opened my creative senses, focused my artistic mind. I see things
differently now, and I love looking for the beauty in all things. I can
honestly say, if my sister had not of died I would not be in this
business. I give thanks to her and God for all that I am becoming.
He only puts on us what he knows will make us stronger. It is up
to us to find what HE wants us to see and understand.
Are the pocket watches I use in working order? This is the
second question I typically get. The answer is no. The whole
purpose of my jewelry was to find a new use for those things that
no longer had a use or a purpose.
Any words of wisdom? Get your mammogram done early. Do
not wait till you are 40 years of age. You need to do them at 35. I
have met more women that were scared of having a mammogram,
and what it might find. It's better to know for sure than to wait,
cancer will not wait for you to find it.
